Watch the Public Hearing That Defeated the Vacation Rental Rezoning

Background Information

Watch the Public Hearing That Defeated the Vacation Rental Rezoning

Watch the Public Hearing and 2 Advisory Committee Meetings:

December 8, 2020 Public Hearing

Board of County Commissioners Regular Meeting

The motion by John Tobia to proceed with rezoning changes died for lack of a second motion to approve. Over 100 Brevard County residents attended to show support for communities who did not want zoning amendments. The agenda item – H.2. – was moved with little notice to a later designation in the meeting agenda. Public speaking time for attendees was cut from 3 minutes to 2 minutes, with very little notice. Some meeting attendees gathered outside waiting for Public Comments were reportedly told the meeting had ended after the Commissioner vote was taken, and that there would be no opportunity for Public Comments.

November 23, 2020

Local Planning Agency Advisory Committee

The LPA Board voted 4-3 to NOT RECOMMEND the Vacation Rental rezoning amendment. Over 40 residents attended to show support against Vacation Rental rezoning.

November 18, 2020

Building Construction Advisory Committee

The BCAC Board voted unanimously to NOT RECOMMEND the Vacation Rental rezoning amendment. Over 30 residents attended to show support against Vacation Rental rezoning.
